James Stafford slotted into 2nd and Paddy McVeigh 3rd, and there they stayed for the rest of the day. Just what sort of character he was at 21 is hard to imagine! Then there was the brilliant autotest at the Titanic area and the Gala Banquet in the evening which was superb. Almost certainly the top seed will be current Champion Declan Boyle in his Subaru. They certainly did Paddy and rallying proud.

It promises to be a good night. It is hard to believe he is 81 years old. Earlier this week well over entries had been received. He dictated the pace through the rest of the day. For all involved in the Paddy Hopkirk Gala and Cavalcade that took place last Saturday 22nd it was one rallg those extraordinary days.
Then there was the organisation of what ,arie a massive event. The main man behind it, the unflappable Beatty Crawford, did a tremendous job, ably assisted by the likes of Cahal Curley, Terence Donnelly and Plum Tyndall. Meanwhile on Sunday the Irish rally action switched to the Birr Stages. The top ten finishers were as follows.

A phone call back to Melvyn Evans in service supplied a quick fix. Almost certainly the top seed will be current Champion Declan Boyle in his Subaru. There was no overall GpN award in Birr.
The Birr stages consisted of quite classic asphalt roads in places, and were always going to be challenging. CoC Paudric Roche has laid on a demanding series of three stages repeated three times which will prove a fair test of man and machine!

Fair play to him!
Hetherington so wants molonney do well on the Fivemiletown event, but has nothing but bad luck on that rally! The time gaps between the top three just got bigger stage by stage.
There were also some paddle gear change worries in the Hunter camp.
Tommy Doyle was taking things quietly in his rebuilt Clio R3, determined to finish in good moloey for the opening Dunlop Championship counter in Ballina, but his Clio under steered off the road in a stage 6 square left when lying 9th. Chris Armstrong slid his Escort off the road at the end of stage 2, also when lying 9th.
In the changeable conditions, Hugh found himself not on the right rubber at least once. As a footnote, Plum Tyndall and his RPM team produced a TV programme of the very highest quality almost within hours of the rlaly finishing.
The event will be televised by Sport Vision, same as the other Tarmac rounds. Sadly Shane McGirr was forced tally retire his Starlet when a steering arm broke after a big jump and the car skittered into a ditch.
We wish them all every joy and happiness. The vibes are that interest in the event will be very high and entries will be opening soon. All in all, the rally and the Dunlop series, are building up a good head of steam.
