The drive LG sent us for this review was manufactured in December of and had firmware version 1. Very nice review and it sounds like a very good drive. They also must be able to recognize LightScribe media. These special discs have a thin dye coating on the label side that absorbs laser light. This is either due to the nature of the software or the configuration of the test system for this review.

Even if you have a LightScribe capable drive and media, you will need software that supports it. I reformatted after publishing this review but will gladly reburn a disc or two and capture the files you need and whatever else I can do to help.
At the time of this review, this is the only official firmware available for the BH08LS My next Blu-ray review I will be using Nero and have a better idea then.
Using the bundled LabelPrint software you can create and burn LightScribe disc labels.

My mistake on the reports of faster burn times with the BH08; I found them on various other forums on the net. When testing the drive’s capacity I found that the drive was able to overburn up to The results are shown below. While LightScribe capable drives use the same laser when burning both the data and label, they have to be able to accurately control the laser’s focus and position as well as the spindle speed.

The higher the quality, the longer the process will take.
